Studies show that at age 55 women are nearly twice more likely to develop Alzheimer’s than men. A report from the Alzheimer’s Association projects that 10 million baby boomers will get Alzheimers.

Understanding Alzheimer

It is practically living with the diagnosis and gradual decline of irreversible progressive dementia. This is characterized by mental capacities, accumulated competencies and memories of a lifetime gradually slipping away. The common problem for seniors suffering from Alzheimer’s disease is that they begin to forget that they forget. The progressive destruction of the brain is creepier than cancer. Cancer maintains self identity while Alzheimer completely loses self and the world without even knowing it. They initially suffer loss from cognitive domains. This may result to communication problems with their carers and families, behavioral problems and safety problems.  Behavior problems may be characterized by wandering, increased agitation, aggression and reversal of day to night. Often it is manifested through untidiness and errors in judgment. Alzheimer is also known to be passed on genetically or through cerebral vascular damage cause by degenerative effects of aging or due to stroke.
