asthma: what is it?
Asthma is characterized by shortness of breath when there are alterations found obstructing in the airways like colds and phlegm that may give rise to wheezing and coughing, tightness in the chest or simply shortage of breath. Closing of the airways is closely associated with rich inflammation of the bronchial walls. The increased prevalence and severity of asthma is related to increased inflammation of the lungs. Asthma is a complex inflammatory disease involving many inflammatory cells which interact releasing multiple inflammatory mediators that cause bronchoconstriction and complex infalmmatory effects on the airways.
